My first post here , so hope this is OK. I am using 98SE and have had no problems until 1 week ago.
Every time I boot up, the system hangs at the last bit before all the desk top is displayed and the following message appears; "pciommon has performed an illegal operation and will close down ". I click OK and system then works OK.
I have not installed any new software, and my virus checker is updated almost daily. I have ran defrag etc.
    Hope somebody can help.
    TIA

    Steve

    Steve.
Do you have PC-Cillin antvirus installed ?
Is one component somehow loaded twice at start-up ?
    regards

Thanks for the prompt reply, yes I do, but how would I know if that was the case. Perhaps if I disabled it at start up ??
    Cheers

Just looked at msconfig/start up and the offending article is there twice, have disabled one and will try on next start up !!
Thanks for making me think of that.

    Sorted
Uninstalled and reinstalled PC Cillin, problem solved, file mentioned was the main exe file. Strange how these things suddenly happen.
    Thanks
