I have had continual problems with this scanner during the last 6 months. It won't scan and gives this message: "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner could not be initalized)." It uses the USB connection. The Device Manager says it is working properly.

HP has given me a couple of long-winded procedures in the past which never worked out. I downloaded and installed the latest driver, powered it up and down several times and tried other ideas too. Usually I fool around with it for days and somehow get it working. This time I've had no luck.

    Anyone had this problem?

I've got the same scanner--got it on e-bay. I've never had a problem.

I guess the only thing I could suggest is to be sure you have all your latest main board drivers.

Being that it is a USB scanner, if you are using Windows 98SE and a AMD processor (running at 350 MHz or faster) with a VIA Technologies USB controller you may want to try the file at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q240075 to see if it helps with your problem. It worked for the USB problem I was having.

I had the same problem and tried all the suggestions you have received. I finally went with a SCSI card and I haven't had another breakdown.
