My windows 98 SE for some reason has added an E drive, but I don't have but only one CD drive, D. Does anyone know how to get rid of the E drive designation? I tried remove hardware, but when I reboot it come right back again.

Did you perhaps install software for a digital camera, printer with memory card slot, memory card reader?

The only thing I've done is remove the software for my Cd writer, and re install it. That's probably when it happened, but I still need to know how to get rid of it. It's a problem, only when I try to copy music from a cd to the computer. Window says it has to initalize the cd drives for a good copy, and of course, there's no drive ther to initialize

Go into safe mode and remove all of your cdrom and cdrws in device manager. Sounds to me you have multiple installs and that is the only place in windows that you can see that. And after all are removed , reboot and check out device manager again. I have seen a double install one time while doing this.
