    In the following article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

    I read that the following values must be present in the Registry:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
    Name: (Default)
    Value: IDispatch
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
    Name: (Default)
    Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
    Name: (Default)
    Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

    After a thorough "find ", I found that the keys are missing in my Registry. Maybe that is the source of my problems opening links.

    I've tried to paste the keys in the Registry, to no avail. The registry wouldn't receive them (I right click in HKey-Classes-Root, and then New Key. When I try to paste in the New Window the Key (not the name or the value, a message says it is not possible).

    I know that I am doing something wrong. Can one of the wizards advise me?

    TIA,
    haim

    guivon--Did you try re-registering the various .dll files first?
    Alternatively you could run Internet Explorer Repair Tool
    Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|Internet Explorer Repair Tool|Wait. Reboot.

    Personally, I would prefer people post the actual URL, instead of hyperlinks, because a lot of the time the hyperlinks don't work.

    I have trouble with hyperlinks sometimes too.

    Thanks to all.

    1) Deloris: I don't understand. Doesn't the hyperlink point to an actual URL?

    2) Davott: Read it. The Shift or Ctrl key do not open new window. In Internet Options/advanced, I have enabled: Reuse window. Question: without disabling this option, is it possible to override it in a single case? I found nothing in Help.

    3) Welshjim: Yes, according to MS guidelines. About the IE repair tool, it is missing in my system. Maybe because I have XP Home Edition, and not the Pro one?

    4) Last but not least: I found the culprit. I disabled Script Blocking in my Norton AV 2003. Now it works OK. Question: Does my action imply a real danger to my system (a malicious Script not being blocked)?

    TIA,
    haim

    It's supposed to, yes. I've never done hyperlinks, so I don't know how they are done, but lots of times, when the hyperlink didn't work, & I told the person about it, they'd then post the actual url, and it worked fine, but the hyperlink still did not. Don't know why.

    Deloris, I think I can be helpful in this matter. If you use OE, you follow the steps below:

    1) Select a text in your message. i.e. "go.to.this.place ".

    2) In the ToolBar, Insert/Hyperlink. A window opens. You write there the actual URL. Now OK.

    3) The selected text in your composer window is now in hyperlink color, and when clicked, it takes the reader to the actual URL.

    I guess that the problem you experienced, resides in the fact that the URL must be manually entered, and probably people make spelling errors. I easily overcome this problem, by copying the URL to the clipboard, and then pasting it into the window. No error is possible.

    Good luck,
    haim

    Well, when I post a link, I just copy the url address from the address bar, or from a url list of sites I have on hand, & paste the url into the post. To me that's quick, & easy, and I've only had one or two in two years, that I know of, that people complained that they didn't work.:)

    Deloris:

    My intention was to point the reader directly to a thread in this BBS. Had I copied and pasted the URL from the address bar he would have arrived at WINDOWS BBS>INTERNET>INTERNET EXPLORER>OUTLOOK, which contains a lot of threads.

    By coping and pasting the title of the thread, I directed the reader to "No shift+click to open in a new window... ", the specific thread I suggested he read.

    Gosh, I am so far behind on answering things. I was in the hospital for two weeks & am still not anywhere near up to par.

    I understand the use for Hyperlinks for some things like a BBS post, but I've never refered anyone to another BBS post, so that's why I use the actual URL's for links.
