How to tell if memory is registered or unbuffered?

    If the stick dosent have a sticker on it telling you what it is.

    I need to get more memory for a server and i need to know what i have in there.

    Download this system information tool:

    http://www.aida32.hu/download/aida32ee_350.zip

    Under Motherboard, SPD, it will tell you if the memory is buffered.

    The logic registers for address and control inputs is in the same section and it will tell you if these exist. The presence of these is what is referred to as "registered" memory.

    OK, stupid question here. What's the differences in registered, buffered, & unbuffered?

    That library has lots of useful information in it. And it has served me well.

    Aida32 impresses me more every time I use it. I have SiSoft Sandra Pro, too, but usually resort to the free Aida. It is hard for me to find things in Sandra and there seems to be a great deal of redundancy.

    Better keep Aida32 up to date. I wouldn't be surprized if they start charging for it (and they deserve something, too).
