The subject line is probably misleading as to where I should look for help, but actually I think this is the right place.

After entering my user name and password, I'm taken to another username/password screen. The first one is the generic Yahoo screen, the second is one for SBCglobal which already has my username@sbcglobal.net and asks for a password. However, entering the password just brings up the same screen again. Over and over, no way into email at sbcglobal.

    Here's why I'm posting here:

On our other computers in our 4 machine LAN I get into email just fine... it's only this one computer. That leads me to believe it is some setting in the computer, most likely in IE tools, although I've tried changing almost all of them. Nothing was changed (that I know of) to make this problem start, which was a few days ago.

The computer has XPpro. I've cleaned cookies, temp files, rebooted, made sure my security settings are "medium" or "medium low" in IE6 and made sure cookies are accepted (which is a requirement for Yahoo email). I even "system restored" back a week ago, although it changed nothing and I undid that restore.

Further details: actually I'm talking about my wife's computer. She doesn't check her email but once or twice a week and doesn't know when this problem started, but I can access her email account on my computer and I also CAN'T access my email on her computer, getting the same password loop. She's out of the office all afternoon and asking that I get it fixed while she's gone. She doesn't want to have to check her email on another computer. Too demanding, I say, but hopin' for some help here!

    Phil

[edit] I just tried logging into my old Yahoo email address that I use for places I think might generate junk mail, and I get the same password loop.

I have no "guesses" as to what the differences could be, but in case you get no other ones, you could try

1-877-SBC-DSL5 (877-722-3755), which is a number in case you forget your password,

    or

    OnLine Chat Help

I also "assume" that you can not login directly at the SBC Logon Screen?

    Thanks, WhitPhil.

I went to that login screen on my computer, copied it onto a floppy, took it to hers, went there and it works fine. However, if I check "remember my id on this computer ", close the window and try to log in again, back into the password loop I go.

Mebbe she'll just have to enter her ID and password every time. I'll prob'ly try calling the number you provided, too, just to see if they have any ideas.

At any rate, she can check her email now, and she's not back yet.

    Thanks!

The "remember" is what causes your Userid to be displayed in the logon panel.

But, it sounds like the code behind that option, at least on one machine, is not saving it correctly (or retrieving it correctly) to/from the site cookie file.

Before you contact them, when the screen is displayed with your userid already filled in, clear it out and reenter it, and see if the logon is OK. This will be useful info to the tech support desk.

ok, I'll give that a try.

put a shortcut on my desktop for the "SBCyahoo chat help" and will try that tomorrow, if time permits.

Actually, not having it "remember my id on this computer" isn't a totally bad thing anyway as I can check my email on her machine easier, although that doesn't happen often.

'preciate the help. she's happy enough now (she got back about 10 minutes ago).
