I'm using NS 7.02 and when I hover my mouse over an image I don't see the alt text. I've searched through the property settings and netscape faqs and can't find this addressed anywhere.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the Forum, paula!

    Hi paula,

I had noted that same thing, and this is the explanation I was given, on another Forum:

The ALT attribute is designed for browsers that do not support graphics.

The TITLE attribute is designed for a "tooltip," usually visible when you move the mouse over it.

The TITLE attribute is usually used for links, and can be placed inside the <IMG> tag or <A href=...> tag.

    Thanks Ramona

There are a number of things in the new netscape that seem to have reduced its usefullness and loss of alternative text is near the top of the list.

While it's true that alt text was originally intended for non-graphical browsers, the fact is that many sites are using it to provide important and useful information (for example, they use icons and images as links that appear meaningless to me and use the alt text to state the puepose of the link) and they are NOT using the more correct "title" attribute.

Thank you for your time on this.

    paula,
There are reasons for different approaches for ALT and TITLE.

The text tells you what that image would be does not serve the same job as tooltip.

Antony, I do understand the difference between alt and title but unfortunately many web pages I visit do not use the title, they (inappropriately) use the alt tag to explain what their images mean. Granted it's inappropriate use, but nevertheless it's happening on very many sites.

    best,
