I was having problems with my floppy drive today - think it has died :( - and was looking for 'floppy seek at boot up' - can't remember if that is an option in XP and hit the System Restore tab in System Properties.

I was amazed to find that System Restore was 'suspended' and I need to run Disk Clean and ensure that there was at least 200 Mb free on the drive.

I have System Restore set for 504 Mb on the OS drive - turned off on all other drives and there is over 4 Gb of free space on the drive.

Turned off System Restore - thus losing all past points and re-enabled - now OK.

What is going on here

    Any info gratefully received.

    SR

    Hi

Not sure if this may help but did you recently install SP1 - if so Windows creates a Restore point for this ( this can be as big as 600Mb !)
If you did not have enough space allocated to SR ( I have mine set at low but after running SP1 ) Maybe this ate all the space !

I have just checked mine but it hasn't been suspended although I do have it set low as I didn't want it taking too much space from 'C'. I have it turned off on the other partitions.

I really don't know how many restore points can be made before one is wiped. I THINK XP makes one even if you don't ???

Not sure if I have set mine too low now  I only tend to use it if I am making a change I am not sure about. I also use Ghost which made me think a low setting for SR was OK as it was really only to turn back as soon as I realised I had done something wrong:eek:

    Hi MiniB,

Thanks for your thoughts on this - it's nothing to do with SP1 - I installed that when it came out several months ago and have used system restore recently and had almost a dozen restore points to choose from.

With a limit on the HDD space for SR my guess is that the oldest restore point gets dumped when a new one is made and there is no more allocated space available.

Just checked - C drive is still being monitored by SR. :)
