For several weeks, I have had a problem with voume control. All of a sudden, there will be only two settings--mute or the loudest there is. Restarting the computer corrects the problem, but it is occurring more and more frequently. I have adjusted my speaker settings, to no avail. I have re-installed my sound card driver, also to no avail. A tech suggested I re-install my keyboard driver (I'm not sure why--I lost her before I could ask), so I tried that, but the problem has returned. Does anyone have a clue about how to fix this?

Try going to Device Manager and looking at Driver Details. Write down the names of all the files. Remove the sound driver. Then, before restarting, search for and delete all the files in your list.

Restart the computer, reinstall the sound driver, if necessary.

Well, I gave it a shot, but not all of the files could be found. I deleted everything I could, and re-installed, but I was left with no volume control, so I restored. I re-installed my keyboard driver again, too.

What sound card do you have? Where'd you get the driver?

SoundMax--came with the (Gateway) machine. I am becoming more and more suspicious that it really is the keyboard control that is messing up, however.
