System corrupt

    When i try to boot up my computer a screen comes up saying:


    Windows could not start because the following file is missing
    or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

    You can attempt to repair this file by atarting windows setup
    using the original Setup CD-ROM.
    Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.


    I do as it says, and the "repair" console comes up, but it just puts me into the MS-DOS console and expects me to magicly know what to type to repair it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

    You may be better off doing a repair installation. Instead of pressing "R" at the first screen, keep going. After F8 to agree to license, you will be given the option to do a repair.
