How long does it take to download ver.4.79? I only have a connection speed of 48000bps and I get disconnected every 4 hours. Will I be able to get it all downloaded in less than that? Also,do I download it from my current netscape or do I use IE? When it does download do I just open that folder and drag my users folder into the folder? Do I delete the old version before I install new version. Sorry if these are simple questions, but I am not at all computer smart and I don't want to really mess myself up. LOL My main concern is how long the download takes. Thanks again all.

    Katy1234,

The 4.79 download is 23056KB. I'm not sure how long it will take to download, but 4 hours should be plenty. If there is a problem with getting it downloaded, PM me.

I would download using your current Netscape browser. Then you should delete your current one and install the new. Make sure that delete everything, after making a copy of your User folder. Here are instructions for a clean install of your new browser. Follow both steps to clear out your old browser. That should get you going.

Netscape is not listed in Add/Remove

Shouldn't it be in add/remove? There also isn't an uninstall in the netscape communicator folder either. How would I uninstall it than?

    Hi Katy,

If Netscape isn't listed in Add/Remove, that means that the installation probably ended prematurely, preventing it from properly setting up the entry in Add/Remove.

I would suggest reinstalling 4.79 over itself, and hopefully this will give you the uninstall files needed.

Post back with any further questions.

Ramona,no I mean my current version that I am using now isn't listed.

Seems strange huh? Forgot to say that I am going to download 4.79 not 7.02 when I do download a newer version.

    Katy,

Yes, I understand that you are saying that your current Version of Netscape 4.7x isn't listed in Add/Remove...

I have 7.02 on the brain, and sorry that I went off on that tangent!

Reinstall whatever version of 4.7x you are using now over itself, and hopefully this will give you the uninstall files. If not, let us know...

    Hi Katy,

No, you're not a dummy, you're in "Learning Mode" To reinstall, you will need the installation file you downloaded. The file name would be (depending on which version you run) cc32d47x.exe. If you haven't saved the file, then you will need to download it again.

    Hi Katy,

You're doing just fine. What Version of Netscape is on your PC now? To determine your Version:

    Click on Help
Scroll to the bottom of the Menu
    Select: About Communicator
At the top of the page you will see your Version number

    Now, go to this link:
    http://wp.netscape.com/download/archive/client_archive47x.html
    Find your current version
    Download the file
Then double click on the file to install it over your existing version.
Before installing close all running tasks, with the exception of Explorer and System Tray. If you are unsure how this is achieved, let us know.

Katy, if this isn't perfectly clear, please post back with any questions. I feel so bad that I confused you with the 7.02 blather!!!

    Katy,
If you do have the file, where I have the "x" is where the Version number would be, e.g., cc32d475.exe or cc32d477.exe, etc.

Well I found it,but it is just listed as a cc32,not the rest of it,but when I click

on it,it comes up with an error message, something about no deinstall file found. So anyway, when you say to go to the download archive site,do you mean I am to download the whole version of 4.75 again, because I didn't see anywhere to download the cc32d475exe thing? If so,I will do that later, cuz the weather is getting bad and I don't want to only get part of it downloaded.LOL. On the other hand,if I just leave 4.75 on my computer and download 4.79 couldn't I just download 4.79 now? Are you ready to pull your hair out yet Ramona. Thank goodness,us dummies have you guys to help us out. Thanks again for all your trouble.

    Hi Katy,

Here is the link for Netscape Communicator 4.75:
    ftp://archive.netscape.com/archive/...windows95_or_nt/complete_install/cc32d475.exe

Yes, you will need to download 4.75 again, as it sounds like you had a corrupt exe file. I would just delete the cc32d475.exe file that you have on your HD, and then download again using the above link.

You can download in whatever order you want. I'm just trying to get you to a point where you can uninstall 4.75 the correct way, rather than doing a manual install. Since you are a beginner, I don't want to have you get into the Registry to totally remove 4.75.
