When I click on a 'Mailto link' in IE there is a 10 second wait, then an error window pops up with the following:
    ---
    Microsoft Internet Explorer (window):
Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed.
    ---

When I click the 'OK' button on this error window, IE goes NUTS and starts opening up countless new IE windows with the 'mailto' url in the 'Address' box! I have to hit ALT-F4 repeatedly to stop the onslaught! Then, eventually, I can close all the windows.

Now, this is also odd because Outlook Express is installed and works fine.

AND I checked to see if it is the default mailer and it IS set as the default in both:
    In Outlook Express:
-'Tools'; 'Options'; 'General'; 'Default Messaging Programs' box (IS the default)
    In IE:
-'Tools'; 'Internet Options'; 'Programs'; 'Email' box (IS the default)

SO what gives? Why has IE gone insane?

    Thx,

    If in doubt - reboot.

    Cures 9 out of 10 problems :)

    Hi mikenowo,
There is a possible reason and solution in this link.
    Hope it does the trick.
