    Hello

I installed MS's Wordview.exe into Windows 98SE so that I can view and copy from WORD documents [*.doc] that folks send me from time to time. Many people assume everybody had WORD for Windows. I don't. I've been a Word Perfect user since day one and probably never will change.

    Anyway, here's my problem:

Wordview took over all Rich Text formatted documents from Word Pad. I want to get back to opening all *.rtf files with Word Pad. The usual `highlight file/shift key/right click/openwith/wordpad/highlight always use' combo refuses to work except for the one particular file chosen which then reverts back to Word View when closed. Word View simply will not release the *.rtf files in perpetuity and universally as `Open With' is written to do.

Why do I want to do the above? Simple: Word View isn't an editor; Word Pad is.

    Thanks all.

Go into Windows Explorer, go to the Toolbar at View\Folder Options. When the Folder Options window opens, click on File Types. Scroll down the list to Rich Text Documents, highlight it, then click on Edit. Another window will open named Edit File Type, look down and you will see open as it is here, highlight open and click Edit in that window. Another window will open, where it says 'Application used to perform action:' edit the line to as below. Leave the DDE box alone.

    C:\Progra~1\Access~1\WORDPAD.EXE "%1 "

Then OK yourself all the way out.

    Hi Markp62

An interesting thing happened on the way to the fair...two actually. For the life of me, I couldn't find any Rich Text entry until on the third or fourth attempt, I spotted two WORD entries and I don't have WORD. One turned out to be the viewer, the other a capture of Rich Text.

I did as you requested but the entry was rejected until I removed the `space "%1" and then when I closed all, I requested that a Rich Text file - and all like it - be opened using Word Pad.

Voila. Windows obliged, all icons were changed - after I was asked to select one - and upon rebooting, the ` space "%1" ' was added automatically. Seems that Win 98 SE likes to do some things on its own!

    Thanks again.
