I recently installed a TDK velocd burner. A side effect is that that my Gateway 550 PC with WinXP no longer recognizes my ZIP drive which is now on the primary 40 conductor cable. I suspect but I am not sure that my problem somehow is in the settings of the PhoenixBIOS 4.0.

Hopefully someone more knowlegeable than I can suggest corrective steps.

Being that you moved the zip drive I would check to make sure you have the cable in the right way, that the cable is in all the way and the zip is jumper right far as master - slave goes.

Russ - Thanks - As far as the Zip drive is concerned the only thing I changed was the point of connection of the 40 conductor cable to the mother board. I'm still trying to fathom the mysteries of the bios settings that are appropriate .

If you have TweakUI, click on My Computer. Make sure you have have enough drive letters checked to acommodate your new setup.

If you don't have TweakUI, get it!

Go to the next drive letter (other than A or B) that is not checked, and left click on it That will make it available for your added drive. Zip drives generally are assigned to D. If your CD drive is currently on D, it will automatically be moved to E.

Just a long shot but I ran into a problem when I reformatted my hard drive. I got an error saying the 40 conductor cable was not plugged in but the HDD still booted. I'm only suggesting it may be something got changed and the computer is not recognizing the 40 conductor cable. ??
