The Spybot download will remove it for you, and anything else like it.

    Cookies

    Hi

I am just reading the rest of this post & noticed the things about restricted sites & customising.

If I add sites to this part of IE - are they not able to send cookies ??? Sorry about being unsure but I am interested

Another thing - I hate those cookies like ' hitbox ' etc - can these be blocked rather than having to find them & delete them myself ?

Thanks for any advice on this. I know there are necessary cookies but some are just planted without me be aware until I look.

I also found the info. on veiwing a site notice VERY interesting & useful !

    IE Tools>options>Privacy Tab>Advanced

Check "override automatic cookie handling ", first party accept and third party block and, always allow session cookies.

That way you can get a cookie from the web page you're on but not the third party ones that like to sneak in.:)

    Solution To Messenger Service Popups

Hey everybody here is the solution to your annoying problem that you don't need to download any additional software to take up any precious space on your hard drive. A lot of people is unaware of the solution to correct this problem It's very easy to follow my in Follow closely. 1. Go to my computer and RIGHT CLICK THAN LEFT
CLICK ON MANAGE. 2. IN THE LEFT WINDOW FIND SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS THAN
LEFT CLICK ON THE +. 3. LEFT CLICK ON SERVICES. 4. LOOK IN THE RIGHT WINDOW
UNDER NAME AND FIND MESSENGER. 5. LEFT DOUBLE CLICK ON MESSENGER WHICH SHOULD BRING UP A
BOX TITLED MESSENGER PROPERTIES. 6. FIND STARTUP TYPE AND DROP THE BOX DOWN
SO YOU CAN FIND DISABLE. 7. CLICK ON DISABLED THAN APPLY AND OK. 8. RE BOOT
AND YOU'RE DONE. YOU WILL NOT GET ANYMORE POP-UPS. HOPE I WAS HELPFUL TO
YOU. I GOT THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM MICROSOFT. YOU DON'T NEED A FIREWALL OR PAY
FOR SOME SOFTWARE TO STOP THIS. A LOT OF PEOPLE IS NOT AWARE OF THIS.

    Thanks Bill

    Hi

Configured IE following your instructions :)

Very helpful - I hadn't realised about the session cookie box there ..... I would have left this unchecked & then had problems !

Just disabled 3rd party annoying ones ! Less to clean out now ;)

I followed your instructions regarding my computer, services, etc. It didn't work. I found messenger, but not exactly per your instructions. I don't have the step where you state to click on+3. I am running windows xp.

    Hi

If you go to your control panel - then Performance & maintenance - then - ADmin Tools - then SERVICES - scroll down this list and find Messenger - Right click - properties - change to DISABLE & then STOP the service if you find it's running. Make sure the disable goes into the box. I find that sometimes my pc goes to fast & it is still at auto. Just make sure.

The service can be stopped within the place that you disable it or you can look bcak on the list and see - stop / stop service - stop it from there. Do the properties bit first & the STOP. You will see another window which shows XP closing the service.

Hopefully this will work for you - if not - just ask again & I will try to give clearer instructions ;)

    bill,
I don't see the "override cookie" on the ie, tools, options, advanced as an option. What version of IE?

    Phyllis,

I have IE6 sp1. I think IE6 was the first to give the privacy tab.

I don't remember if older versions had that kind of cookie control. It may have been in another place.

One of my pet peeves with MS is they have this propensity to change the location of things in newer versions.
