    I'm trying to run one of my favorite Dos programs in my new XP Prof. OS. I receive this message: YOur Protected Mode Driver is not responding to your EMS function calls. Make sure your EMS driver is not configured with the NOEMS option. Replace the NOEMS option with RAM. I can't find the EMS driver to change the option. Can any one help me.

    Here you go: Config.sys from 98se

    REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
    REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /A20CONTROL:ON
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE ON M8 RAM
    DOS=HIGH,UMB,AUTO
    DEVICEHIGH=ANSI.SYS

    I had all of the statements beggining with the HIMEM.SYS REMarked out, in order to keep 98se working with 1 GB ram. The first 2 lines I remarked out here, as they are for 98se and 1 GB ram in my system.

    There are .txt files under c:\windows that document this. Of Course, MSFT never tells anyone anything about their existance.

    EMM386.EXE is the EMS driver

    I believe that Windows XP is being used.

    And like Windows ME I do not believe it will allow a config.sys.

    At least not the same as in anything up to and including 98SE.

    ME and XP also will not allow DOS commands in the Autoexec.bat.

    ME and XP are not really designed with DOS programs in mind.

    Just a thought or two.
