I installed Norton's System Works and it took over my recycle bin.
I would like to have it back the way it was. Does anyone know how to do that? I am running W98SE.

hmm...You mean to say you were actually able to Deltree the Recycled folder without changing its protective attributes!! That may say something about how it became corupted.

Normally you would have to do:

    attrib -r -s -h c:\recycled
    deltree c:\recycled

    To get rid of it.

I have Norton Protected Recycle Bin. If you right click on it and pick open it will open just as it did before without bring the unerase wizard up.

Perhaps these links will help you if an uninstall or disabling of the Norton protected bin is what you wish to do.

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nunt.nsf/pfdocs/199842313339

And this link but disreguard instructions for uninstalling all of Norton and just use the right click info for disabling the protected bin services:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nunt.nsf/docid/2001060810423109

Or as Russ suggested you can leave the bin Protected, if you find this option desirable, but a right click open or explore will bypass the Norton wizard and open the bin in a win98 fashion.

To sum up; The protected bin is a part of Norton that can be enabled and used or not, depending on the installation, setup and user options. Problem is once you've enabled it you need to do a little more hoop leaping and thinking to disable/unistall this option.

To remove Norton Protection is not just a matter of shutting it down.

1st - Right click on Recycle Bin/properties and make sure Nortion protection is ENABLED

2nd - Select apply and restart Windows

3rd - After restarting and right clicking on Recycle Bin again, If shown select empty Norton files.

4th - Right click on Recycle Bin/properties and select the Norton Protection tab.

5th - Select Remove Norton Protection.

Make certain that empty files is selected also

Select apply and restart Windows again.

This is the ONLY way that Norton protection can be removed with out leaving protected files on the HD. And if protected files are left on the HD it can ( and has ) mess(ed) up defrag and scandisk.

When done you can use properties of the Recycle Bin to rename it if you wish.

Geez, I just gotta say that this smells like a problem that does not beg for a solution. Why not just leave it alone? The cures suggested may be worse than nothing at all.
