    I have a directory under Progam Files titled "Zero G Registry" which contains a file "com.zerog.registry.xml ". When I open the file the following html code shows up:

    <?xml version= "1.0" encoding= "UTF-8" ?>
    - <registry version= "1.0" last_modified= "2002-12-27 20:14:58" install_date= "2002-12-27 17:36:09 ">
    <products />
    <components />
    </registry>

    What is Zero G Registry, is it required or can it be deleted?

    From this google search I think maybe this? Some kind of software and/or hardware updater.
    I haven't heard of this before, maybe something like Backweb, another updater thing.
    I noticed in your sig that you have 98SE, it doesn't require this. Whatever put it there may.

    Thanks markp62, I found that too. I went through some of the stuff on the Zero G web pages, but is mostly incomprehensible to me. :confused: It does look like some type of installer/uninstaller stuff. I will wait to see if someone else has some more ideas.

    Edit: I'm a little gunshye right now as I just had a go round with Xupiter and spent most of the morning clearing it off my computer. What a PIA it was everywhere!!!:mad:

    The concern is I don't know where it came from, e-mail or web site so could happen again unless I can figure out what happened.! :eek:

    hey john

    for starters you can run it through Kaspersky's online file checker for peace of mind...

    what sort of anti-spyware tools are you using?

    Spybot? Ad-aware? SpywareBlaster?

    :)

    ZeroG makes a product called Install Anywhere. Applications can be installed directly from a web page using browser helper objkects ).com) files.

    Chances are that you visited a site that installed some sort of spyware or application on your computer.

    Install Anywhere can also be used for legit software installs, just like InstallShield and others.

    Thanks mark and TonyT.

    Mark, yes I used Spybot and Ad-aware to get rid of Xupiter, pulled out around 30+- items, plus manual deletions of files/directories, RegClean etc. Seems to be gone. I use NAV2001, no hits. May run an online checker tho'. Spybot doesn't list Zero G in it's Excludes.

    TonyT: Yes that's the impression I got about Zero G. Seems to be harmless/legit. I don't think it was related to spyware in this case. Guess I will just leave it there for now or move it to a storage directory and wait to see if anything needs it. If not I will delete it.

    john did you note that the KAV link i gave you is great for submitting just one file... as opposed to being a full system scan?

    Hi mark: KAV shows file is OK. (Great site for scans, have bookmarked that one!!)

    Search for files created 12/27/2002 turns up a lot of "QuickTax 2002" files created that date. I think that's the day I installed my Quicktax software so that's probably where the Zero G thing came from being as it's an installer. I think I will just leave it alone for now as I sometime un-install the old tax software about a year after I have submitted my taxes, just in case it the uninstall needs it. Appears it can do no harm.

    Thanks for all your help, my mind is somewhat at rest now.:)

    Edit: Just saw your post about RegCleaner. Nothing about Zero G in there.
