Anyone know why my cd rom won't run with the autorun feature enabled? Just happened in the last few weeks? I tryed all known tricks. Removed the drive and rebooted, clicked the AIN button on or off and tried both ways--nothing. Would appreciate any help. I have a compaq generic DVD Rom. Never had an ounce of problems with it....jongru

    Ah shoot...........

I just spent 5 minutes typing this out for ya'. So I'm going to go ahead and paste it on here anyway. I assume by instant fix you mean something along the lines of the reg patch I mention below:

Is this for all cd's reguardless of dat on disk?

Are these burned or store bought?

Not all cd's autorun. They must have an autorun.inf on the disk. Also the cd must actually be accessed/read/readable by the cdrom. Some will spin and give up.

Some applications that may have been set as the default for which ever extention or drive you may be trying to autorun may have it's own option for enabling or disabling this function. I know some burning software and creative sound players have this capibility.

    With the above being said....

    --Method 1:

Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
    Choose the Device Manager tab.
Open the CD-ROM branch, and select the entry for your CD-ROM drive. \
Click Properties, and then choose the Settings tab.
Check the "Auto insert notification" option.
Click OK, and then OK again. Restart Windows 98 for this change to take effect.

If this is checked try disabling and after reboot re-enabling again.

    --Method 2:

Use tweakui>Paranoia Tab....and check the boxes for cd auto'. Apply and reboot. If these are checked disable them, apply and reboot, then re-enable them once again.

    --Method 3:

Download a regpatch that when extracted to desktop will give you a reg file that when double clicked on will merge or enter one of the hkey values that controls the cdrom autorun feature. In this case the value is set to enable autorun.

NOTE*There is a couple of other hkey values that may be messing with this function, but let's try the easier one first.

    ==================

I'm glad you got it fixed and sorry I took so long addressing this post. Thanks for updating your post and sharing your results.
