I have windows xp on a new dell computer. This is a pre installed version. If i create a new folder in the root of C: and change the folder properties to read only off, once i reopen the folder properties it goes back to read only. I am logged in as administrator and need help in solving this please

If you are looking at the General tab (not security), it's probably dimmed. Does that stop you from copying files into that folder?

The read-only option displayed in the properties for a folder allows you to add/remove the read-only attribute for files within that folder and does not modify the property of the folder itself.

The problem is that this pc is on a LAN and other pc's on the lan need to access this folder to gain authentification rights to be able to access a program. I havn't had this problem on 2kpro before or indeed xp where you change the folder properties only for it to default back to read only. Do you have any idea why it defaults back to read only once changed.

    Thanks
