Everytime I log onto the internet now I get a pop up error message telling me that my Bwfiles.dll not found or not valid. I do have such a file associated with BackWeb, listed in my Program Files. I ahve no idea what this does. The error message does not prevent me from logging on, but it may be essential. I don't know.

    Can anybody help?

Though a few legitimate companies used Backweb for interactive updating (McAfee, for a while), this thing is spyware at its finest and is not now usually associated with anything worthwhile.

I'd suggest a scan with Ad-Aware amd SpyBot. See what they think about it.

    Backweb etc.

Actually, I ran Webroot Spy Sweper and deleted a file in there. I was thinking that caused the error message until I found that full fledged program in program files. I was under the impression BacckWeb is a part of Windows ME.

    Any suggestions now?

Suggestions depend on what you want to do.

Here is more information on it. Most people consider it nasty spyware, but it has some legit uses, as I said:

Are you just trying to rid yourself of the message?

I'd still run some other pest killers, if I were you.

    Backweb etc.

Very interesting article. The pop up is annoying but ahrmless, I guess. I would like to get the program off my computer but it isn't listed in Add/Remove and it doesn't show up in my Start/Program Files. I have an old Uninstall Application I used for Windows 95 but I don't ahve it for this machine.

    BackWeb

I found an uninstaller for backweb hidden in Windows Explorer in the Windows folder. I had already deleted the folder in Program Files/BackWeb. so I should be rid of it.

Thank you so very much for your help.

    Let's close this one now.
