I have built a new PC, boots OK into BIOS, used the 6 Windows XP Pro boot disks then continued setup from th CD ROM.

Setup gets so far then stops with an error "Setup cannot copy file xxxxxx.xxx etc, esc to skip, enter to retry etc etc

Sometimes it will continue, sometimes not and you have to esc. It is not always the same files it stops on. This then obviously screws up the install.

It happens 20/30 times over the whole install, and on different attempts it is sometimes different files

The CD seems OK not scratched etc and cant find any hardware faults.

Tried to boot off a single boot CD and then run winnt.exe from i386 on the CD but this falls over as it says it cant find an area for swap.

Any ideas how I can overcome this?

Probably a RAM issue. See 257954

That may or may not be a CDROM problem.

I have had the same problem with not copying files when installing from a CDR/RW drive. I changed to an older CDROM drive on another machines and installed the program over the LAN from the other machine using the same CD and no problems.

I have also had problems installing Windows from a CDR/RW drive. A normal CDROM or from the HD all works fine.

I now have two CDROM drives in this machine now just for that reason.

Copying Windows setup files to the HD has illiminated the problem also.

Would you please tell me what that is all about ?
