    1. What do I need to check to find out why I am getting no name resolution only through VPN connections?

    2. Why do some users intermittently get "you do not have rights to this network resource" when trying to access shared folders on different file servers... again, when connected through VPN?

Add Netbeui to both ends. When you connect from the remote dialup or broadband click the connection in the system tray to confirm netbeui is loaded. This corrects the browsing issue.

May have use find/search for computers the first time to connect.

The name/password has to match a user set up on the server. Additionally this user has to be added again in properties in the "Incoming connections" in Network neighborhood/My network Places.

Should I configure incoming connection rights in RRAS?

Well John I don't think you are a moron.

But on the server not remote. You should have a LAN and an incoming connection. If you don't then you need to make one.

You have to tell the host/server to accept incoming connections.

    Use "Make new connection" .

    XP advanced connection .....

    2K allow incoming connections...

    No wonder you can't browse!!

    Out for lunch 1hr.

It tells me to configure it in RRAS...
I have dial in access allowed set to 1

Is "Enable Router Discovery Announcements" important? Should it be checked?

Thanks for all your quick replies. I appreciate the help.

OK John I have only a few minutes as I am at work. Have a series of meetings this afternoon. So may not get back to you untill tonight.

It is now 1:30 pm Eastern std time. I have no idea where in the world you are.

It would be nice to know what the remote computer is. 98,2K XP?

    quote:
I have dial in access allowed set to 1
    unquote.

Is the above some registry value where did you get/set it?

Are we calling in to a 2K server or pro. If pro you can make a VPN but not Terminal services if you are headed that way.

    So I assume 2K server!

You will have to go into services and activate Remote access if not enabled and start it. Then config it.

You will need to make a new network connection to allow incoming connections.

The remote that calls in should be in the users and groups with a proper password.

This user will then need to be explicidly allowed access to the incoming connection.

As to how to do it step by step that will have to wait untill tonight!

Been a couple days since I asked for the above info! Since you did not provide it I assume you got it all worked out.

    Please confirm!
