At Christmas I purchased a Lexmark 75X multifunction printer. If I attach the USB cable while the computer is on I can access the printer, scanner, etc. but if I ask it to print, I get the message "cannot find printer ". If I shut down and try to reboot with the USB cable connected, the computer will not reboot. I have installed and uninstalled the printer several times, with the same outcome. Also I previously had an EPSON printer, which I have tried to remove; however, I get the message that the printer cannot be removed. So now I have reinstalled a separate flatbed scanner which has not had any problem. And my partner, who also uses the same Lexmark printer, etc. has no problem printing, etc. At the moment I email him my documents to be printed. Not very efficient!!! Any help is appreciated.

Don't know if I can help or not but before I even try I need to know what OS you are using.

If you are using an AMD processor (running at 350 MHz or faster)
and VIA Technologies USB controller with Win 98SE MS has a patch for USB.

I have an Intel 400MHz Pentium II processor. Not sure about the USB. My partner has an AMD processor and Windows 98 SE, and has had no problem using the printer.

Check in the Device Manager to see if the USB ports are even listed and if they are if there is a problem with them. If there is a problem with them then remove them, reboot and let Windows detect them and reinstall.

You might also check in the BIOS to be sure they are enabled.
