    :D

Lots of holes that need patches, and he's always behind on his patch jobs. :)

Lots of times the patch is worse than the hole. :)

    FULLY agree

    Hi

Same sentiments as you have on making matters worse .......

I was advised that all the patches for Windows accumulate & are not tried & tested - much better to wait until the service pack comes out before applying them !

Not sure about IE patches but think I will wait to see. Another security notice out today ' REVISED ' patch ...... for 2000 servers this time but seems the first one had holes too .....

Will take time to read the IE & OE issues BUT just read this time not dive for the patch ;)

Hi here's my two cents....I'm waiting for a while to see if anyone posts any problems from these patches. So far I have 5 that Windows Updates says I should install. 1 for sure is causing problems (from what I have read), so I have decided not to take any chances:(

    Still Waiting

    Hi

Went to Deja news today - was consdering the new patches as I hadn't read about any defects ...... i.e. until today. Seems that a few people have had the fonts change plus one even was looking to uninstall ! Looks like they are still not problem free ..... will wait a little longer.

Wondered if anyone else has this after installing ??

Well, I broke down and installed all updates that were waiting that were critical, and 2 that were recommended, and no problems so far. The only one that I DID NOT INSTALL, was 811493 Critical, which is the one that M$ has recalled, but not taken off their update page. I will wait until that patch is reworked and resubmitted. Then I plan on waiting a week or so to see if anyone else posts any problems. Lived without it this long with no untoward effects, so I can definitely wait a while longer and make sure it works without trouble. As far as the OE and IE updates that were available, no problems so far....Touch Wood!:)

    Good to Know !

    Hi

I think you are a bit like me..... really don't want to install BUT are tempted as they really might be critical ...... I haven't ventured myself yet but may do soon. It is great to know that you have not had any problems ( to date )

As for the Windows updates - I may hold back on these. I removed the awful one and noticed an improvement straight away. Someone told me to wait until they issue the service pack - that way they will have been tested - that is OK providing you are not having problems which the patch may mend !

It has been rumoured that when SP2 is released there may be another version of XP simliar to 98

There is a site with the long list of what SP2 will have ....

    Beta SP2 Info.

Thanks again for your feedback. Will probably do the same

I'm not very knowledgeable and haven't figured out how to remove that particular update. Can you advise? Thanks

Hi doubleu: Are you using XP? If so, to remove the patch open Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs, locate Security Hotfix Q811493, then choose the option to uninstall. A reboot will be required to remove all traces of the patch. Hope that helps.

I installed both patches for IE and OE - the only problem that has arisen so far is that when IE and OE are shut down a shortcut sometimes appears on the desktop labelled ' ~ '. If I open this in notepad it is the code of my Address Book

Should have mentioned XP Pro + SP 1

Hey doubleu no prob, and it's really not that simple, since a lot of the patches M$ issues cannot be removed this way. Hope that solution did work for you just remember to keep an eye out for the release of the replacement. Hopefully the "new and improved" version won't have any glitches. Personally I will wait a week at least before installing it to see if there are any complaints from others.
