I wanted to remove a program on my pc. I went to add/remove software and wanted to delete it. when I clicked remove, the uninstaller popped-up but stopped halfway. I couldn't remove the program this way. I deleted all the program files on my hd and then scanned with two registry scanners for entries. found and deleted it all. (regcleaner and regscrub)

when I start a program like xp-antispy and I apply the settings, xp-antispy asks after this program that I deleted and asks where those program files are. strange ?! it did this never before.
when I went back to add/remove software, the entry of that program is still there but I don't have the option to remove, no button there anymore.

how can I manually remove the entry in add/remove software and manually delete any files that cause this?
Is there a way to completely remove software manually?

btw, the program I talk about is 'AMI diag'

    anyone suggestions or advice?
    thanx

    In RegCleaner

    Uninstall menu.

    Find prog, check, remove it!

Only when you have manually removed any program and know it is gone,do you use this.

Usually it's best to use the uninstall option in the start menu/programs (if available), then secondly through the Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

It sounds like you either had a corrupt install that disabled the uninstall facility, the programme was so badly written that it wasn't meant to uninstall properly or the version wasn't XP compliant?

Another option is to reinstall the same programme and see if you can uninstall it in the above order in case it was a corrupted install to begin with. This should remove most of the files a manual uninstall can leave.

I had this problem with Encarta... I mearly reinstaled it like Paul said but did it using the fuction to run a program like it is a Windows 95 program!

If you install as if it is Windows 95 it'll normally re-do everything making it easy to uninstall!

If this doesn't help... Pro or Home? Have you had/do you have a virus?

    Good luck,

    Gary

maybe the program is completly of my hd but then I don't understand why it shows up in the add/remove software section with no remove option button on it .

    an answer on your questions:

I did use the uninstallation menu of regcleaner to get rid of it but no response.

I have win xp pro, and never had I virus on my (xp) machine.

I am going to try the reinstall and uninstall option tomorrow, I'm getting sleepy right now.

    thanx for the tips guys

EasyClean might be a good option too! This will clean Add/Remove (as far as I know)
