Boot into BIOS and select the boot order to CDROM first. It's probably set to C Drive first or Floppy first, C Drive second. After the install you will need to go back into BIOS and select the first boot option back to C Drive.

Install the upgrade disk in the drive and reboot the PC and follow the prompts to upgrade your existing install.

You will need to run the compatability programme to find out if any of your programmes and hardware are not XP compliant. From memory you access this from running the upgrade disk from within ME. BTW you can upgrade to XP with the upgrade disk from within ME too if you wish.

I strongly recommend a Clean install (reformat) method which you can do from booting from the install disk but you need to backup ALL your data files and have all the original install disks and setup information for things like your ISP connection etc beforehand. You should do this even for an upgrade, just in case... So an upgrade is probably less hassle, but XP will not run at its peak performance if you use the upgrade method, due to "leftovers" from the ME install, particularly in the Registry.

I assume your hardware is above the minimum recommended, and you preferably have 256MB (or more) RAM?

    OH,
and you will need your your ME install disk to satisfy XP that your eligible for the upgrade, during the install, unless you have purchase the full version of XP.

phil1158 - let me echo Paul. For some reason the upgrades from ME seem to cause quite a few folks major problems that won't fix without a clean start including formatting to get rid of ME.

The upgrade to 98 seems fine as are the ones from NT/2K.

You might be one of the lucky ones and have a flawless upgrade. Those do happen. But if you go that route, be sure to have good backups of your data files just in case.
