Hey Everyone. I'm a beginner so if the following question seems like a sinch, dont laugh at me. :D Anyway, everytime I try to click on the E-Drive icon in My Computer. A thing pops-up telling me the E-drive isnt accessible. Also, if i put in a CD, it doesn't work and start up automaticaly. Hopefully someone can help, thanks!

    Kat,
Is this a new PC or a new CD-Rom drive ?
Have you always had this problem ?

If its a faster drive, it may take a little time for it to spin up. You can also wiggle your mouse a bit. Give it 20-30 seconds before you call it a no go. Some CD's aren't going to auto start no matter what so make sure you are doing your testing with a CD that you know will auto start in another computer. If there is no CD in the drive you should always get a message that the drive is inaccessable.

    Merlin-
Nope. Not a new computer. We had someone come in and reformat our computer and since then we've had this problem.

    Rockster2U-
Even with a CD in the drive and waiting, it still says the e-drive is not accessible.

Guess its time to get that somebody to come back and fix it.

Have you tried booting to safe mode (F8 or Ctrl at startup)and removing all references to your CDRom drive in Control Panel(System Tab)? Try that and reboot - if you find a few - your in business. Also, you may want to try DMA checked and unchecked in properties for this drive. Good Luck.

Have a go at this idea.

At the Start/run line type SYSEDIT

Look at the config.sys and see if there is a line there that loads the DOS 16bit CDROM driver.

If there is, put REM and a space at the beginning of it. THen restart Windows.

If said line is there, sometimes it will stop Windows from picking up a new CDROM.
