I'm running Netscape 4.8, under Windows 2000 Professional. When I installed Netscape, I didn't install the Palm synchronization component, because I didn't have a PalmPilot. But I just got one - actually, I inherited one from someone who got a newer model. Is there any way I can install the synch module so I can tranfer my email addresses, etc., to my "new" PalmPilot? Or do I have to reinstall Netscape completely? And if I do, do I have to uninstall and delete everything first?

    Thanks in advance...

    acelightning,

Knowing that you run an error free Communicator, I would back up, then install Netscape 4.8 over itself. Use the Custom Install, and deselect all but the Browser and the Palm Pilot Sync component.

There is an "nareadme.htm" file in the ~\Communicator\Program\program folder
which looks as if it will answer your questions. I have no experience with a Palm Pilot...

I wish Netscape had the feature that most versions of Windows have - "Add/Remove Components "!

I can't find that "nareadme.htm" file anywhere, though. There are no subfolders called Communicator in my Netscape folder. I put the filename into Windows Search, and there's just no such file anywhere on my machine.

Anyway, I'll just install 4.8 on top of itself, and add in the PalmPilot stuff. Thanks!

    acelightning,

Once you reinstall Netscape with the Palm Pilot Sync component, the above mentioned files/folders ( "nareadme.htm" file in the ~\Communicator\Program\program folder) will be available to you. You should have this folder however:
    C:\Program Files\ Netscape\Communicator
If you do a find for netscape.exe, that should locate the Program Folder.

There is a address_book_palm_sync_32_48.jar file, on the FTP Site, which I did try placing in the ~\Communicator\Program Folder. It did not, however, give me selections in Start|Programs for the Palm Tools. As I don't have a Palm Pilot, I didn't go any further with trying to test the component.

Netscape 7 does have the option to install components separately from this FTP Site.

The names of the sub-folders are a bit different between 4.8 and 7.x, but after I reinstalled 4.8, with the option for PalmPilot sync, the file you referred to was there. I've now got the whole thing set up, and I'm having fun with my PalmPilot ;-)

    Thanks again!

    acelightning,

Thanks for posting back, and glad to hear you are "Syncing" to you heart's delight!

Just for my information, what is the file location difference in 4.8/W2K and 4.7x/Win9x?

    Thanks!

It's just ...\Netscape\Program\nareadme.htm. But it contains all the information and instructions I needed.

Now all I need to do is to start getting into the whole wireless-LAN thing, so I can send email directly from my PalmPilot... ;-)
