In IE Help. The drop down menu has "Tip of the day ".

I inadvertently deleted this , it showed a smiley face, in start/explore. I don't exactly remember where it was.

It's still in the drop down menu but when I check it , it pops up on the bottom of my screen but no tips are there. Is there any way to restore this without getting to complicated?

Never used it. If you right click it, is there something about options, properties, etc., whereby you could enable it again?

Thanks dmz, Right clicking does nothing. These were handy tips for a beginner. I should have left it alone, Thought I was deleting something I didn't need.

Brett, I went to start/explore. I think it had something to do with a set up but I cannot remember exactly where it was. There were two. When I opened the file ( or folder) they had smiley faces. That's what I deleted.

dob Thanks for trying but My control panel does not have Accessibilty options.

Maybe running the Repair Tool will re-enable the option.

Not sure of any smily faces or what exactly you mean found and deleted,, maybe you deactivated an oem tour guide?

If the repair didnt work, navigate to this file:>TIP.HTM
    C:\WINDOWS\WEB\TIP.HTM

right click on it and open with internet explorer, are there tips there now, if so close , file close-and open another IE and use the tip of the day , is it working ?

    Hi ladyLuck

Did you try the repair , that Brett suggested ?
And you have no TIP.HTM on you're PC ?
go start search type in TIP.HTM and search now,, if found r/click and choose open with internet explorer.

You could try , with only one IE open --tools internet options, programs tab, use the [reset web settings] button.
Might as well place a check next to [X] IE should check etc etc while you are there.

Im still puzzled about the smilely face thing

Just checking--you've never used the Accessibility Options in control panel ? or In IE ?

only other thing I can think of is to reinstall IE, seams a little drastic.
By the way what version, go help about IE to get version details
post here ver cypher strength and whatever it says after update ver:

Lonny , did repair as brett suggested. No change.

Went to start, find TIP.HTM. Nothing was found.

    Version 6.0.2800.1106
    cipher strength 128bit
    Update version:;SP1;

I do not have "Accessibility Options" in Control panel

Have you clicked on help above the tool bar and do you see "tip of the day "? Somewhere in Start/explore it is in one of those folders shown as a smiley face.

What exactly will [reset web settings] do?

    Hi ladyLuck
Have you looked in the recycle bin for what you deleted?

Can you use tip of the day from from the -view drop-down ?
view ---explorer bar--- tip of the day
    If not
We could probably fix this two ways

I could zip the contents of that web folder and email it to you,
Do you have a zip utility ? PM me and include you're email addy
in other words click on my name for instructs,, include you're address or I wont be able to attach anything or even see the address. its only 163kb
    OR
    reinstall IE--seams alittle overkill

while on-line go to control panel add/remove programs select
Microsoft Internet explorer 6 & Internet tools [add/remove]
add a component OK then place a check next to everything down to language Auto selection then [next]

    Lonny
PS Barbara-Ann I like that saying , its very important to me,
even when im gettin it :D certianly while so

Lonny, I downloaded Winzip. When I opened your attachment the only thing that came up was a picture of the "Thank you for trying Winzip" I tried to do a screen shot but I don't see anywhere on this forum to do this. If you sent any other info such as in your email to me

"I will attach the contents of web folder"

There was nothing related to this. If you will, please resend info to my email addy. Thanks

    Hi ladyLuck

I forgot when first use winzip, it comes up with that screen

You have to first get it out of whichever mail program you use.
Right click on the attached zip file, in the context menu >
    winzip -extract to
and point to the web folder,,,, if prompted do you want to overwrite say no to each.

Im not exactly sure how to get an attachment out of outlook express and place on desktop or in my documents..

I dont use oe.Maybe another BBS member will step in and explain.

Be sure to place in the correct folder and dont overwrite if prompted, the contents of that zip file.
    C:\WINDOWS\WEB\
also dont forget to scan any attachment or download with you're anti virus program!!!
    Let us know what happens
