    Microsoft updates - HELP

I went to the microsoft resources page and it told me that I needed to do certain updates. I went along with this and did all it said, now I cannot use any CD games or disks (my computer wont read them) and I also now have an F-DRIVE that I didn't have before. Please, can some-one offer any solutions. I am not really very good at computing but can follow instructions.

Second Posting - Same problem, sort of.

Further to my last posting. I can now access everything but still have an F-DRIVE. My E_DRIVE is still called this but is actually my D-DRIVE. Can anyone tell me how to get it back to normal please?

    Re Merged

Lonny, I am referring to windows 98 not 98se. I'm not sure of the IE. I did update that too but that seems OK. It was the other updates that have caused the problem of the new drive (F). I went to www.microsoft.com then on the left of the page it has resources, then windows update, then, it said checking for latest versions of windows update software. Then scan for software. Which I did. Then windows is searching for updates. roblem. I couldn't understand why this has happened, I only did what was suggested. In answer to your question about merged, I had posted two different posts and this site merged them. Hope you can help me, Lynn.

    Hi Lynn
I'm not a win 98 person so I'll just get more info from you so others can help, OK?.

Normally people update use the tools drop-down then windows update or start menu on taskbar. same place anyway , you just confused me .

Go back to win up -- scan for updates again , see if windows want to update anything else, don't let it for now.
over on the left view installation history, write down everything from the date in question, post it here,
I only let win-up update windows and Internet explorer and windows products.
better to get device drivers and such from you're OEM or there maker,
winup still want to upgrade our stock video card even though we no longer use it.

Also would you check in control panel --device manager
    how many CD roms ?
and how many do you actually have what letter are they assigned?

Provide this info then well go from there
Hopefully a hardware person with 98 exp with chip in.

    Lonny

I don't really know what all those updates actually do, but I don't think that they should have done anything like this, but hey it seemed to have happened. Anyway, as for the cd drive letters you could probably fix this by relettering the drive back to how you had them before.

This should show you how to do that.

I guess I should ask, what happens when you click on this new f-drive in windows explorer.
