When I open one of my download folders for Kazaa, windows explorer encounters a problem and needs to close. This is the only folder that causes it to encounter a problem that I have noticed. It started after I installed a critical update from microsoft for windows XP Pro. I downloaded some different things and didnt try opening the folder before they finished so it could be either of those things. I have restarted several times same thing and tryed it 3 or 4 times in a row and same thing also. it says it is the xvid.dll file that is causing it and I have ran Anti-Virus and didnt find anything there either. I am looking for a way to fix this without restoring. Any help much appreciated...Thanks

    1. Ditch Kazaa. Get Kazaa Lite or something that doesn't load your system with spyware/malware.

    2. Open My Computer then right-click on your C: drive and properties. Do a clean up. Let it delete everything it finds.

    3. Download and run Ad-aware and Spybot to get rid of the spyware/malware you already have. Then use the innoculate feature of Spybot to prevent a lot of it from showing up again.

    4. Start~run~sfc /scannow and let it repair/replace any damaged/missing system files.

    5. If you still have problemws, say exactly which critical updates you loaded and if you are using XP-home or XP-pro and SP1 or not.

If you've installed critical update 811493, that might be the source of your problem (see this thread ).

Just go into Control Panel>Add & Remove Programs and uninstall it. If the problems go away, you've found the source of the trouble.

Miz is correct but that particular patch seemed to only cause problems for folks with SP1 which is why I asked if you had it or not.
