i know i should have a router, but our cable hub works for three computers and thats all we have right now. two coomputer running win98 connect tot he internet fine, but the one running xp pro doesn't. we have the cable modem connected into one of our hub positions. On one of the win 98 computers i ran winipcfg to get the ip info.

    it reads like this

    ip address is 24.235.141.100
    subnet mask is
    255.255.240.0
    default gateway is
    24.235.128.1

i don't know what the problem is!!!!

That is a Class A ip address so your obviously pulling the ip addresses from the isp via DHCP, so how many ip's do you have "alotted" to you from your isp, 3 or 2, or 1?

and is your cable modem plugged into the uplink section of the hub? and is the xp machine plugged into the one right next to that one? meaning...

    Your Hub
    1 2 3 4 5 - UPLINK

    98 98 0pen Open XP Cable Modem

    Or something along those lines?
