Having a problem installing Office xp on my machine. Every time I try to install it I get a 1335 error code----not able to read office cab1 file. I have tried all fixes from Microsoft even tried copying program to hard drive and installing from there. Program will install on other computer's so it is not bad program. Have run out of things to try. help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehehe .... if it installs OK on other computers, then it must be a #@*&! Some CDRom drives don't do too well with CDR discs. You can buy a new version which should install fine or buy a new CDRom drive so that machine can read that disc as well as the "other computers ".

Apparently you did not read my post. I know it is not the cd because I copied it to the hard drive and I still get the same error. And I also never said it was a cdr disc it is a new Microsoft program. Still need help

    Hi jcamp

Since the CD has loaded and installed "Office" correctly on other XP's, my guess is your system can not uncompress/expand the CAB file. Wild guess, see what program is associated with CAB files.

I read your post just fine. Sometimes, the stuff between the lines can be just as telling.

Without echoing my previous comments, I'd say this - if your machine had a problem with the Cab_1 file read from the CD Rom drive and then you used the same CD Rom drive to copy the disc to the hard drive and your machine couldn't read Cab_1 from the HDD, then your CDRom drive is very consistant, but that's about all we can conclude from that.

Back to the problem. DennisL could be right on the money or you could have a damaged or dirty "new microsoft program" Disc. If this "new" disc has worked fine in other computers, we'll move it into the "slightly used" category but that still brings us back to trying another CDRom Drive that might read "new or slightly used" discs better than your current CDRom Drive.

You also may want to try cleaning both the disc itself and the CDRom Drive before installing a different drive.

If nothing else works, I'd suggest you contact Microsoft and get a "new" replacement.

    ;)

    Hi jcamp

If file association is correct, if cleaning CD player does not help... are you on a network? Drop CD in different network player and pull it across. Not sure if you can do the "Install" from the network drive. If not, copy over to correct HD. If still getting a CAB error, take "Rochester2U" suggestion and request a new replacement disk.

Or if you are on a network, go to a PC where the CD install did work, share said CD drive, and install from there.

And FWIW, I agree you probably got a CD issue and probably with the drive in the problem machine.

Ok guys, thanks for trying to help but none of the suggestions will help. Microsoft has some fixes posted for the exact problem that I am having so it must be a common thing. I have tried all fixes from Microsoft as well as some of my own and also all of yours. I have even copied the cab1 file from my buddies disc onto my hard drive replacing the original one but I get the same error. I guess next stop is a new program from Microsoft, problem is it is not my disc, belongs to a friend. Oh well, I will keep trying. Next is to expand the cab1 file on hard drive and see if this works. Thanks again.

I just put the cd in the drive and copied it to the hard drive. I have the whole office program on the hard drive and just replaced the cab1 file from my buddies disc with the one I already had. I haven't had a chance to try and expand it and try it that way. Will try it later. Thanks

I wish you well. Your answer confirmed exactly what I thought.

Good luck - hope you get it resolved.
