Could someone please tell me how to completely remove/delete IE 6.0 so I can re-install it so it is nice and fresh? I keep getting:

Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any incovienence.
    Send Error Report or Close

It is always affecting the mshtml.dll. I tried some things on a page listed by another user that has been very helpful. I followed the instructions on the page and ended up using the
feature in the Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel to reapir IE. All it done was allowed IE to run about 3 minutes longer than it did previously before it shuts down and sends the Error Report.

When I try to delete IE I get a message that states something to the effect that it cannot be deleted and then when I tried a different approach I got a warning that if I proceeded, I
would never be able to uninstall IE; so I did not do it.

Anyone's input would be gretly appreciated!

    Hi, Birdy ~

Assuming you are using XP, you cannot completely remove/delete IE6, but you can reinstall IE6.
    • 'Start' > 'Run...'
    • enter
    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir% \ Inf \ ie.inf
    • 'OK'

You will need your XP CD.

I'm not using XP; I am using Windows98. Got a suggestion now?

    Thanks!

Would it cause any harm to re-install IE 6.0 again, over the top of the bad one in Windows98? Doesn't this cause double files or something like that?

    Thanks again!

Installing over IE will NOT hurt anything. In fact it may replace any damaged of corrupt files. However, when you attempt to reinstall it you may get a message telling you that the version you have is newer than the version you are attempting to install and asking you if you wish to install it anyway. Simply answer "yes" and it should install without any problems. Hope it clears up your problems.

Btw. after you reinstall you should probably go to Windows Update and reinstall the critical updates. Ususally a reinstall of OE wipes them out.
