Need some advice on a Dll. Problem
I am unable to use the restore program in XP Pro. a message comes up saying Unable to access WINSTA.DLL.
Have tried to reload this file and it will not accept the reload. Therefore I can not run a restore and I need to do that desperately. Is there a fix for this ? The file does show up as it is there in the Windows directory, but something is blocking it's useage. Any out there have any ideas. You can't delete and reload it since it is a windows necessity.

Have you tried re-applying SP1? The SP1 version is 5.1.2600.1106. Check that you don't have more than one version.

Could not correct the problem. The SP1 is the only one loaded. Got to have somewhere to find the obstruction, seems the solution is gone to sea.

    Thanks for your input..

Have you recently enabled remote support to allow someone to connect to your computer?

The file you mentioned is used by that function quite heavily.

Disable the remote support and reboot to see if this clears the problem.

Did you mean Windows\system32? There should be at least a copy in that folder.

    Winsta.dll

Yes that is exactly where it shows up, but is obviously impotent to the restore process that rejects that it is there..

We can always talk amongst ourselves.

    Canfield Fair-----
How did you try to "reload" the file and from where?
Do you have a CD with SP1 slipstreamed into the original installation?
Is srrstr.dll (of which winsta.dll is a dependency) present in system32?

Try another program that needs winsta.dll, like utilman.exe (WindowsKey+U).
