OK first off thanks to you all who have helped me. w2k has been purring like a kitten for weeks now! So I want to get into my CMOS and it is asking me for a password! I never set a password for the CMOS. Any way I can disable it? I tried my w2k password but no go. Looked in the ABIT manual, nothing there....ABIT's web site is horrible, no search. Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks!!

Things to try, in order that they are listed:
    1. Don't enter a password, use blank. If that doesn't get you into BIOS then try 2. Get rid of password setting by booting up with BIOS defaults, which on Abit boards is generally accomplished by holding down the Insert key while pressing the power switch. 3. If still no-go, remove CMOS settings (and the password that someone else might have entered) by disconnecting the computer from electric socket and either use the motherboard jumper to clear CMOS or take out motherboard battery for several minutes.

That happened to me at school today. Do those, if the first two don't work, unplugging the power supply and taking the battery out works like a charm (try 3-5 minutes).

Alllll rightie! I knew youse guys (I am from RI after all...!!) would come through for me. Hubby is furiously surfing the web right now, but will try tomorrow when he's at work. Sounds like it can't miss, the battery thing, I tried the first two and they didn't work, that was next on my list.

Why does it do that anyway? A bug? Never did it in w98!

    Thanks again!!

I don't know, I just checked mine, and it didn't have a password on it.. maybe its just the version you have, the battery thing should work, if not, maybe pressing enter will.

Lee: it never did it before, as I have w98 on another hard drive and the idea is when I want to use a program that won't work in w2k I can just change the startup drive in CMOS and start up in w98 instead of w2k. No one changed the CMOS to have a password, it just did it on its own! Strange behavior!
