I tried to format my hard drive and re-install XP home edition but I keep getting the same message when I use the 6 XP home boot disks that downloaded from their website. The Message comes on after the 6 disks load and the CD rom starts to spin. The message is as follows:

The following value in the .SIF file used by setup is corrupt or missing:

Value O on the line in section [SourceDisksFiles] with key "SP1.cab "

Setup can't continue. To quit press F3

When I press F3 the computer restarts and I see the following message: NTLDR is missing.

    Someone please help

NTLDR is missing if you managed to format or partly format the hard drive.

Any reason you can't boot from the CD and install that way? And what caused you to need the format/install? May be some hardware/firmware problem.

And your topic said XP-pro while you said in the body XP-home. Probably doesn't matter in this case but the two often behave differently so it's essential to say which one you really have.

    Win XP install problem

    Newt,

Thanx for the reply. I am working with XP Pro (Home was a typo). The install CD IS NOT bootable, thus the need to use the install diskettes. The box had a hardware problem that was fixed, necessitating a cold OS install.

Any ideas as to how to get around the install error ?

I would be surprised if the CD is not bootable - have you checked in the bios to see if Boot from CD Rom drive is enabled and at the top of the heap - i.e. the first boot option before FDD and HDD ?
