I have it checked to remember password, but as of 3 days ago each time I start the computer up I have to use my password to get it to send. It is a minor thing but I never had to sign in before. I am using Netscape 4.75. Any ideas as to what I can do to fix this? TIA

Katy1234: A suggestion. Instead of fixing your problem, eliminate it. Replace your NS 4.75 with what's generally regarded as the best of the legacy versions, 4.79. Or, if your system can take it, make the jump to 7.02.

If that sounds promising to you, do a Search here to find out just how to do the upgrade in the way that's most likely to turn out well for you. And be sure to get back to us to let us know how everything works out. Good luck!

    Hi Katy1234,

BOBBO offers good advice, in that you do need to upgrade your Communicator. There have been quite a few bug fixes, improvements, updated media components, etc. since 4.75.

Remember, that it is your Mail Server and not Netscape, that asks for your Password. Netscape Communicator or Navigator never requests any password information. The message you are seeing is sent from the mail server itself. This can happen if there is an error with your mail account or if your Internet service provider (ISP) has changed your mail password. Contact your ISP and request more information on this issue.

I am using Netscape 7 and have the same problem. It used to remember my password. If I go to edit, preferences, privacy and security, I see that it is set to remember passwords. If I go to tools, options, password manager, I see that it remembers several of my passwords but not an e-mail account. Even if I'm not checking e-mail, the taskbar for Netscape 7 flashes regularly and asks me for my password. I enter it and instruct it to remember it but it doesn't. Any suggestions? I called my ISP and they said that I set it through Netscape.

    Hi Rusty,

Here's a checklist for you, and I know you have already done part of this. Just run through it all again, and see if it helps with your problem:

    Netscape 7
    EDIT | PREFERENCES | PRIVACY | PASSWORDS
Ensure that you have enabled "Remember Password "

Click the "Manage Stored Passwords" button and delete passwords that pertain to the account(s). Then restart Netscape, and access the account(s). The Password Manager should prompt for saving them again.

Use Windows "Find" to locate the prefs.js file.
    Right-click, select Properties
Check the File Attributes, and verify that it has not been flagged "READ ONLY ".

If you are running Window Washer, or a similar program, and it is configured to delete the form folder, disable.

If you are still running Netscape 7.0 and using the Privacy script:
    user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 0);
change the O to 1 and see if it works.

    Thanks Ramona,

The first three were easy, but I'm afraid I don't know what privacy script I'm using or how to tell or change what I'm using. I solved the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling Netscape 7.

    Hi Rusty,

Glad that you fixed the problem!

The privacy script will be listed in your prefs.js file, if you added it there. If you have added nothing to your prefs.js file, then rest assured you do not have this script.

If you are running 7.0, and not 7.02, the latter version has a fix for this privacy vulnerability, plus some new features, and other bug fixes.
