    FireDancer.
Are you having problems ? If not, leave win.ini as it is.
    If yes, what problems ?

The load= and run= are the same idea as the Startup Folder in Windows itself. Some programs still put something there.

I am not sure what the Null Port is.

But I would not delete them.

I am saying this because you did ask about this files and to me that says you are not familiar with these files. And I believe I remember correctly from your other post that you are using 98SE.

    But consider yourself forewarned.

Messing with the System.ini and/or the Win.ini can be as dangerous as messing with the Registry. Especially the System.ini.

Microsoft does not and some users do not consider them as part of the Registry but there are just as important and are used by Windows.

I guess that is why MS got smart and includes them along with System.dat and User.dat in the reg backup that Windows makes at the first boot of the day. ( the RB00X.CAB files in the Windows/sysbckup folder.

The 'Load=', 'Run=', and 'Nullport=None' are fine just like they are.
The System.Ini and Win.Ini files are holdovers from Win3.0, 3.1, and 3.11. In effect, those two files were the 'registry' of those versions of windows. If you corrupt these two files, you will get a message when booting up the computer, with the result of window not starting.

    Definition of Null Port:
    Default: "None "
Purpose: Specifies the name used for a null port. This name appears in the Printers-Configure dialog box in Control Panel when a device is installed (that is, the device driver is present) but is not connected to any port. This value also appears for such a device in the [devices] section of WIN.INI.

I understand this as saying it is a part of the way to configure a printer for use in 3.0, 3.1, 3.11. Be glad of Win98, I remember those days of getting things like modems and printers to work.
