Tonight in attempting a repair of IE, I was told that IE could not be repaired that I would have to re-intall it. The reason was that scrrun.dll was missing. I re-installed IE SP1 from a disc that I have, and just out of cursiosity again tried to repair it. I got the same message--missing scrrun.dll. I finally found a correct version of the scrrun.dll (5.1.0.5010), put it in my System folder and registered it. Now when I attempt a repair of IE, it works. My question is was this dll file deleted by a recent Windows update or what? It is the MS Scripting Runtime Engine.

    Hello,Jayt36 & Welcome

    Try this

From the Start menu, point to Search, & then click For Files or Folders.
In the Search Results window in the Search for files or folders named area, type: *.cab (don't forget the asterisk & the dot!)

Enter scrrun.dll in the 'Containing text' field
Include the appropriate path in the 'Look in' field, & then click Search Now.
The files are listed in the Search Results window.

Tell me exactly what you see there.

    or if you like

You can get the file through this site:

    http://www.drd.dyndns.org/index2.html

Click on DLLS then "search.... "

Download the version for your system to c:\windows\system

    Good luck

I obviously did all that. It was not on my computer until I downloaded, installed and registered it. But thanks for taking the time to answer.

    Hi Jayt36

    Cant answer you're question.
I see message--missing scrrun.dll splaterd all over MS KB, in about 15 different articles.

    You didn't say
version of Internet explorer and you're OS
what makes you believe 5.1.0.5010 is correct and up to date ?
    scrrun.dll (5.1.0.5010),

Mine on a win me system with ie6 w/sp1 is:
5.6.0.6626=====oddly enough dated 7/23/2001-But I dont think that date has any bearing as it may not show even if MS has updated it.

    You didn't say:

And I know I should have posted my OS and V of IE. The OS is Win 98 and the IE is 6 SP1.

The reason I believe 5.1.0.5010 is correct is because IE told me I needed at least that version. However later in the evening I was able to find v. 5.6.0.6626 and I renamed the 5.1.0.--- version to oldscrrun.dll and installed and registered the new one ;-). Anyway, everything is working fine now, I was just cusious as to what happened to the dll file in the first place.
