I never installed the 4 in 1 drivers for the Via 686 B southbridge on my FIC AD11 mainboard (dumb, I know). I think these drivers might help me play AVIs better. When I go to Via's site it says users with hybrid boards like mine need to get the drivers from the FIC site. However at the FIC site they don't have the drivers for my board. Can I just download any old set of 4 in 1 drivers, or am I SOL?

They will. They may be needed to make AGP work properly.

However at the FIC site they don't have the drivers for my board.

You may need to look for the combination of chipset(s) and MB not just the MB.

Can I just download any old set of 4 in 1 drivers,

Having made and error in that area myself I would advise against that.

And BTW. Do not forget that the 4 in1 drivers need to be reinstalled everytime Windows is. I made the mistake also.

I downloaded the FIC AGP driver for Win98, but I'm not sure if it's the same as the 4 in 1 drivers or not. Do I need to reinstall Windows or my video drivers if I install this AGP slot driver?

I can not be completely sure but I believe it is that same as the one in the 4 in 1. But there are other drivers in the 4 in 1 that help make thing better also.

I do not think Windows would need to be reinstalled. But the Video drivers I do not know. It has been so long since I have messed with either one I am not sure.

But I would suggest that if you do reinstall Video drivers that you do all you can to make sure that the old ones are out of the system. Otherwise Windows may just be its nasty self and put them right back in.

These newer Video cards and their drivers can be a tough problem. It took me 3 days and several tries to get my GeForce4 MX 440 to set up correctly.

Four in one drivers from Via should be installed with all Via chipsets and updated as neccessary. Some say that official version 4.35 is one of the better ones with Win 98 although they are now on about 4.47. Personally, I think alot depends on the hardware you are running as much or more than it depends on the OS. Regardless, you want to install these before you install your video card drivers. As to messing up anything OS or system wise - they are pretty inoculous, however, I have occasionally seen them produce two BusMaster IDE Controllers along with two sets of Primary and Secondary IDE controllers.
