My son was on the computer (Win98) and somehow eliminated the start button and taskbar from the screen. How can I restore them?

It's probably just hidden, not eliminated. Put your cursor at the bottom of the screen until it becomes a double headed arrow <-->(positoned vertically). Then see if you can't rescue your task bar by moving it back up into position. :)

Hi - Try all four sides of the screen using the technique Jayt36 described. If you can locate it, drag it back to wherever you want it. Good luck! Clydeo22.

Try looking for it at the top of the screen or the sides. Maybe he dragged it to one of those places. If you don't find it you could restore a previous registry if he did this within the past few days. Boot to a Dos prompt and type the following line.

    scanreg /restore

You'll be shown a list of five dates you can restore the registry from. Choose a date in the list that predates when the problem started (if there is one). Reboot and that should fix it.
