Just started using my new computer with WIN XP. My monitor is an 18.1" which is shown in the MS XP Hardware Approval List, however I can only get 640x480 resolution and 16 colors. Properties only shows a generic monitor and I cannot change either setting. What can I do to get 1280X1024 resolution and 256 color? This was no problem using my former WIN 98 OS.

Get the latest video drivers from the mfgr. site and update your system. That will probably take care of things. Certainly the easiest fix and the one you should try first.
