I want to reformat and Partition my computer. I have Windows XP Professional which I want to have on a separate partition. What drivers do I save and how do I save them.

Need to save any drivers you've loaded since the original XP install. Good luck figuring out which ones those are:D :D

Don't forget to backup your mail, addressbook and all other files you've created. Burn em to cd of copy them to floppies.

Then there's always Partion Magic that will let you create/repartition your drive withOUT looing your current XP installation.

    Reformat & Partition

    Thanks Steve.
I do have Partition Magic. Can I get the Windows XP OS on one partition along with the updates?

Yes. Provided you have a current version of Partition M that supports winXP.

Say for example you have a forty gig hard drive. You can convert the C dirve to ten gigs and slip up the rest of they drive however you'd like.

    Partition

Thanks Steve. I have Partition Magic 7.0. Will it save my drivers, or will I have to. Will try this tomorrow. I have removable drives, so will copy with Ghost to one of the drives just in case I mess up.

There's a great little free progam from JerMar software that will automatically back up all of your drivers in a seperate folder. You can then burn them to a CD and do your thing re: wiping your drive, formatting and reinstalling whatever blows your skirt up.

    http://www.jermar.com/wdrvbck.htm

And for those so inclined, Tweaki for Power Users (another JerMar offering) is well worth the price. You can test drive it free for a couple of weeks.

    Format and Partition

Thanks Rockster2U I used the driver program and did back up my drivers. Tomorrow will reformat, reinstall Windows XP, Partition my 80Gig Hard Drive and keep my fingers crossed. Do you think 10Gig Partition is enough for the Windows XP O/S? What about the updates for XP, should they be on that same partition? Any info you can send my way would be appreciated. This is my first time for doing this.

Sounds to me like you have a very good handle on this. Good luck to you - you're going to do just great.

Thanks Rockster2U. Still haven't done anything yet. There has been one thing or another around here so haven't had the time. Maybe later in the week. Will let you know the outcome when I get to finishing the job.
