Until I fired up my new coomputer with XP, I always just popped a music CD in the drive, and it automatically played - through all tracks without any further action on my part.

Now I pop the CD in and a menu comes up that allows me to click on a track which will play repeatedly until I stop it.

I have tried everything I know to find a way to play a CD through without success. I have Real Player 8.0 (I think that is the version) but I have not been able to get it to just play a CD.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi, jvwert ~

    Go to:
    • 'My Computer' > right-click your CD drive > 'Properties'
    • Click on the 'AutoPlay' tab
    • Under 'Select a content type...' is a box with a drop-down arrow - select the type of CD
    • In the 'Actions' area beneath that, put a dot next to 'Select an action to perform:'
    • For each type of item in the drop-down box, you will have a choice of 'Play...', 'Open folder...', 'Take no action', or other choice depending on which item you have selected
    • Click one of those choices for each type of item > 'Apply' > 'OK'

Thanks much Bruce. As I write this, I am listening to track 2 of my CD, without any further action.

It is just that each "upgrade" seems to have so much "stuff" added that doing what used to be simple is now complicated enough that it takes "outside" help for a guy like me to be able to do what I used to do alone.

Possibly it was the addition of Windows Media Player that inspired Microsoft to make it more complicated.

In any case, I am now closer to where I was two months ago.

    Thanks, again.

    Right on :D

It all gets easier once you do it & get used to it.
