Help! I have Win2K workstation, and was using the built-in backup utility every week for the past 8 months or so. All of a sudden, the backup crashed when trying to verify the backup to the same media that I had been using all along. Running backup without verification results in a .bkf file that gives an error "the backup file is damaged....." and I cannot restore anything from it.

I looked in the Add/Remove for backup, thinking I could reinstall it as a Windows componint. No luck. Can't find it in System Tools either.

The error occurs even if I try to backup to a different device using different media. Anyone have any idea where to find the backup component to uninstall/reinstall it??

Event Log only shows error messages saying that a file could not be completely saved. I already know that!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

The backup program is %SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe - perhaps the file became corrupted and needs to be replaced.

Thanks, I figured as much. But where can I find a new copy of ntbackup.exe? I looked in all the CAB files on the hard drive and on the CD, cannot find it. Don't have another copy of Win2K here, so I can't just pull it off another machine. Maybe someone out there can email me a copy? Send to info@starlitephoto.net.

    Thanks.

The /system32 folder has a subfolder called ..\system32\dllcache - it contains backups of many system files, and you'll find it in there.

Thanx, I like to know how the system is put together. I used System File Checker to fix all the system files and that took care of it! Should've tried that first.

    Sorry I didn't respond sooner, stuff happens, y'know! :D
