Device drivers not loading on startup

I am running windows 98SE and everytime I turn on the computer have to reload my device drivers. Once they are reloaded will stay on until computer is shut off for the night. I can restart computer using restart button but seems when computer is shut off this happens,
My computer is an upgraded one and has integrated device drivers.
Have been told it is a virus and have checked all that their are no viruses and very little is installed on this computer. I have checked everything I can think of wondering if any one else has any ideas.

 

This sounds like a bad Win98SE install.
Have you tried a new setup ?

Sorry about the long delay in getting back to you but I guess I should have said the computer is my sons and I am getting him to try all these things so have to wait for his replies.
Anyway windows was reinstalled and it still acts the same but one thing he told me tonight is that if defragments it before he turns it off it will work so that may tell you something that you can figure out what is wrong.

I cleaned it all out that is did a thorough cleanup of everything did a virus scan used adware did a registry clean. Than I uninstalled Norton and reinstalled and downloaded latest upgrades and now it all works fine.

Back again with same problem as I said in a above message that everything worked ok that lasted a few days than went back to having install drivers everytime turn on computer but now this is what is happening it comes up with its going to fix registry and once it does the drivers are gone if by some means it should happen to come on with out this registry repair the drivers are still installed ,
I am curious why this is happening anyone have any ideas. I know I can re format and do installation of everything but right now I am looking for an answer to why this is happening.
