Need Info On Xp "critical Updates"

I always try to install the latest XP updates from Microsoft. Recently I've noticed many aren't "XP Certified (Or some such prompt) and installation won't continue. Why would Microsoft provide updates that cant be installed in XP? Is there a work-around?

Hi Pete: Yes I do use the "update link" when I see it flashing at the bottom right on my screen, but you made me think. Perhaps Microsoft just informs me of ALL available updates (not necessarily for XP) and only installs the XP compatible ones.
However I've also gone to the "updates available" download site at Microsoft and was certain I selected only those for XP. Hmmm...I'll take a closer look next time.

It struck me as odd that MS would offer XP updates that are "signed" for XP
