Do I have to unstall my hardware when upgrading from Me to XP Home?

Do I have to reinstall my various applications or do they move over automatically?

What about things like pictures - how can I avoid losing my picture files?

Just plug in the disk, and run setup.
If you ask for a full report when prompted, it will tell you if there's any hardware or software incompatibilities.
There are usually very few, but take notes, and then hunt down any XP specific stuff you need.
You will not lose any pictures or anything, although they may be moved from c:\My Documents to c:\documents and settings\username\My Documents, which makes no difference, because when logged in as that user, they'll all be where you're used to having them.

Thank you, reboot. That's what I was hoping to hear!
